Meet the Trainer
Billy Mosley - Owner/Trainer
I have been around dogs my entire life. Growing up in Central Florida my first introduction to hunting dogs was chasing deer through the swamps with my grandfather and a pack of Walker hounds or beagles.
It wasn’t until after college that I got my first lab, a black male named Austin, and shortly after I got another black male, Bandit. I quickly learned that training a retriever was drastically different than training hounds, so I bought every book and DVD I could find and then, I spent some time with respected and successful trainers throwing birds in exchange for being able to pester them with questions.
While still working as a high school Special Education teacher, I began to spend every free moment I had training and learning. Shortly after that I trained my first hunt test dog, a chocolate female named Hershey. Since then, I have been blessed and fortunate enough to train and title dogs at all levels of HRC and AKC hunt tests and many successful gun dogs.
My training philosophy is simple: focus on the process and the product will take care of itself. These dogs here at the kennel are a huge part of my life, and my one and only goal with each dog is to develop it into the best dog it can be. You have to be somewhat flexible and individualize your approach based on each dog’s personality; these are living, breathing animals, not a robot we can punch a formula in.
When not training or campaigning dogs I try to spend as much time with my wife, my son, and my twin girls as I can. Much of our family time is spent outside taking care of the number of other animals and pets we have, riding ATV’s, and hunting. We, as a family, are very involved in our church. I serve as a deacon, and my wife sings in the choir and serves as the media secretary.
